Pre-Finish Spray Booth Operator - Day Shift (Tacoma, WA)

Pay: $18.00 – 22.00 Per Hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM 

The Prefinish Spray Booth Operator will prep and spray cabinets, custom millwork, doors, and other products. This role will need to work the assigned shift, including mandatory overtime.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sprays surfaces of manufactured products or working area with protective or decorative material, such as paint, enamel, glaze, or lacquer, stain, shellac, or varnish using spray gun.
  • Wash surfaces to prepare product for finish application.
  • Clean grease and dirt from product, using materials, such as lacquer thinner, turpentine, soap, and water.
  • Mix finish ingredients to obtain desired colors or shades.
  • Remove old finishes and damaged or deteriorated parts, using hand tools, stripping tools, sandpaper, steel wool, abrasives, solvents, and/or dip baths.
  • Fill and smooth cracks or depressions, remove marks and imperfections, and repair broken parts, using plastic or wood putty, glue, nails, and/or screws.
  • Examine product for quality defects and work with team to decide on the best method for repair or restoration.
  • Disassemble items to prepare them for finishing, using hand tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 1-year experience as a Finisher/Spray Booth Operator.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with proper operation of conventional sprayers, airless, and HVLP.
  • Knowledge of proper spray techniques for paint and other coatings for different product types.
  • The Pre-Finish Operator has a vast understanding of material finishing and possesses all aspects of high-end shop work from sanding to priming and spraying a variety of different finishes.
  • Utilize situational awareness in detecting any deviation in the functioning of the machine.
  • Ability to understand read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ensuring that safety is always top priority while working.
  • Ability to work schedule as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Desk is provided, but standing/walking approximately 6-10 hours/day, 5 days a week, may be required to work 6 days/week depending on business need.
  • Use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk and hear.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, particularly reading that may be very fine print.
  • The employee will regularly be twisting, bending, squatting, pushing, and moving or lifting 10-15 pounds. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Conveyance systems, rolling carts, and other tools are available to move product.
  • Ability to wear respirator and PPE on a regular basis.

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts such as saw blades.
  • Exposed to vibration from machines.
  • Noise level is loud and ear protection is on hand.
  • Employees may be exposed to hazardous chemicals in the workplace.
  • Sawdust is always present, and eye protection always required.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Frontier Door and Cabinet’s Safety Program and all established safety rules must be followed. This will include safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection (when needed) while on the production floor. This position will also require use of gloves, dust masks and at times, a respirator.
