Safety Coordinator

The Safety Coordinator reports to the Safety Manager. This position performs the day-to-day functions of the Safety department, general office, as well as the Human Resources Department. This position must protect company proprietary information and maintain discretion for confidential employee information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Primary Duties 
    • Assist safety manager in maintaining records of incident reports, hazard analysis, training, and other compliance requirements
    • Support the Human Resources Department in special projects and events, training, or employee interactions
    • Maintains presence on manufacturing floor and develops close relationships with employees and supervisors while monitoring to ensure compliance of company, state, and federal safety policies
    • Provides honest, regulation-based feedback to supervisors and managers
  • Temporary Workers
    • Coordinate orders from supervisors and managers for temporary worker requests
    • Maintains strong working relationships with staffing agency account managers
    • Tracks payroll hours for all temps daily in Temp Tracker
    • Ensure all training and safety orientations are transmitted to staffing agencies 
  • Safety Walks 
    • Conducts twice daily walk-throughs on facility floor and records safety violations
    • Stocks First Aid cabinets and ear plug cases
    • Maintains supply of PPE and submits order requests to Safety Manager
    • Interacts with employees on the floor and maintains presence as safety ambassador
    • Checks for blocked fire exits and extinguishers
  • Training 
    • New Employee Safety Training and Orientation
    • Assist in equipment, forklift, and fall protection training until trainer qualified
    • Develops and presents training classes for Safety Committee and Supervisors 
  • Documentation 
    • Assists in maintaining all written procedures for new equipment
    • Develops Equipment Hazard Analysis 
    • Maintains and updates LOTO, Job hazard analysis, and PPE assessments

Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet ongoing business needs or additional duties may be assigned per employee’s growth and development. 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

-Must be familiar with WA DOSH WAC 296 and OSHA 29 CFR
-Familiar with emergency management procedures
-Knowledge of clean air, hazardous waste, fire codes desirable

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

-High School Diploma or GED. College education is a plus.
-At least 1 year of safety related experience or work-related experience in a similar role
-Safety certifications are not required but a plus

-May occasionally lift and/or move > 50 lbs.
-Walking the manufacturing floor
-Sitting 4-6 hours/day. Option to stand while working.

EXPECTATIONS FOR CONDUCT

-Be on time daily. Shift starts at 9 AM. Breaks are at 11AM and 3:30 PM. Lunch is from 1 to 1:30 PM
-Have all required equipment. This includes safety glasses, safety boots, hearing protection.
-Maintain confidentiality and discretion in all Safety or HR matters
